“WHY”
When the “WHY” outweighs the pain, an individual will find the fortitude to overcome setbacks and obstacles. Many people dismiss the term ‘purpose’ as a cliché. However, when individuals fully focus on their purpose and start making decisions based on the ‘why,’ they can achieve great things. Sam Silverstein writes in his book, The Theory of Accountability,
“Each of us faces moments of truth in our lives, moments when we are called upon to make a decision that supports our best conception of ourselves….even though it might seem easier, more convenient, more familiar and more comfortable to stick with the status quo. These are moments when we are challenged to remember, and act on, our own understanding of who we are truly meant to be. The decisions we make in these Moments of Truth define us as human beings.”
Over the past 20 years, I have come to understand that there are extreme differences of opinion when it comes to the complexities of human trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of children. However, it is undeniable that human trafficking and exploitation are a scourge on society. This hideous crime against humanity manifests in a multitude of forms. At times, it’s hard to explain the passion behind my “WHY.” There is a deep-seated drive within the core of my existence to find answers and solutions to the incredibly complex nature of trafficking and exploitation. Today, I write with a conviction in my heart that this is my “Moment of Truth.” I am fully committed to “Standing with the Champions in the Field, and sharing their Stories.” I have a fire within to serve exploited and vulnerable children. I believe the “WHY” can make a small difference in the life of a child.

The hidden nature of trafficking and exploitation makes it extremely difficult to detect. Many organizations provide similar estimates for the number of humans trafficked each year. It is easy to become overwhelmed by the overall scale of human trafficking and exploitation, losing sight of each child and individual who can benefit from someone standing up and serving them. It is crucial to address the complex nature of this crime and answer the difficult questions it poses. Governments and non-governmental organizations have different opinions and strategies when it comes to addressing trafficking and exploitation, leading to the formation of various narratives by different individuals and humanitarian groups. As I move forward, I aim to research the core existence of trafficking and approach my role with a desire to understand it better. Most conclude that poverty and lack of education are the primary components producing the greatest amount of vulnerability. There is a wealth of scholarly research on the various aspects of trafficking and exploitation, making it vital to continue the conversation and conduct in-depth research into this complex issue.
As you continue reading this article, I want to acknowledge that I may have been abstract. This article is not meant to inform you about the number of trafficked victims every year, nor is it meant to debate whether it should be called Modern Day Slavery or not. I could easily start a contentious discussion about the various dynamics involved in this dark and hidden crime. There will be time for a thorough examination of the narrative. I intend to explore all the different aspects of this complex array of diverse interpretations and operational strategies. I do intend to keep “Grillin the Narrative.” https://thequest4.com/
“Our purpose speaks to us and becomes obvious in Moments of Truth.”
Sam Silverstein, “The Theory of Accountability.”
It has been a long journey filled with many ups and downs. I have navigated failure while continuing to dream big dreams. I have navigated through the desert of confusion and uncertainty. However, there comes a moment of truth that begins to resonate within a person’s soul. I understand the importance of cultivating discipline in my daily routine during this season of life to ensure that my “WHY” shines.
In conclusion, I am more dedicated and disciplined today than I have ever been before, not because of an innate passion in my soul, but because of the individuals and the children I have crossed paths with. I have witnessed the worst of humanity, and I have witnessed the best of humanity.
“Only if you have been in the deepest valley, can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain.” Richard M. Nixon.
I am sharing this quote not because I am seeking personal “greatness or success,” but because I believe the deepest valley is when a child is being exploited and trafficked. It’s a deep valley when a young life is abused and left with lifelong scars and traumatic memories of what the worst of society can offer. My “WHY” has led me to understand the importance of reaching that child, mom, or dad and offering them a way to escape the valley and stand on the highest mountain. I am allowing my “WHY” to shine brightly. I understand I will continue to face setbacks and failures. I understand I will continue to be frustrated with the lack of progress, and at times, I will feel discouragement when I witness another child being exploited for someone else’s profit and gain. As I walk forward, I am more determined than ever before to live out this “WHY” in my life. I am completely focused on “Standing with the Champions in the Field and Sharing their Stories.”
